The health of the UK prime minister as he struggled with COVID-19 was of great interest to currency traders. Reuters was ahead in reporting Boris Johnson tested positive for COVID-19 on March 27; that he had been admitted to intensive care on April 6; and when he was finally released from intensive care on April 9.
Sterling fell on the news of Johnson's positive test and intensive care admission. The currency recovered when he was released.
