Reuters ahead with key China-U.S. trade negotiation news

Reuters was 28 seconds ahead with the Chinese vice commerce minister’s comments on Dec. 13 that Phase 1 trade negotiations with the U.S. had achieved major progress, and more than 20 seconds ahead with subsequent comments on details, including that agreement had been reached on the context of a Phase 1 deal. The month prior, Reuters was five-and-a-half minutes ahead on Nov. 7 with Ministry of Commerce comments that China and the U.S. had agreed to cancel existing tariffs in phases.

Market reaction:

The Dec. 13 comments sparked a rise in U.S. stocks; the Nov. 7 comments pushed the U.S. dollar up by 0.5 yen while the Australia dollar firmed against the U.S. currency.
